Susan Rempe
Center for Biological and Engineering Sciences
Sandia National Laboratories

Dr. Rempe uses atomistic simulations and a new free energy theory to study structure and function relationships in biological and material systems. The insights gained are used to inform synthesis of new bio-inspired materials. Dr. Rempe's work, in collaboration with her experimental colleagues, resulted in two patents for bio-inspired membranes: one to desalinate water and the other to capture CO2. Both membranes won R&D 100 Awards and the latter won the R&D 100 Gold Award in Green Technology. Dr. Rempe is a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Labs, and holds positions as Research and Adjunct Professor at UNM in Chemical and Biological Engineering and Biology.
