Electro-catalytically active gold nanoparticles
Work by Yang-Hee Lee, Ji-Hoon Jang, Juyeong Kim, and Young-Uk Kwon at Sungkyunkwan University, Gunn Kim (DFT calculations) at Sejong University, and Minwoong Joe and Kwang-Ryeol Lee (MD simulations) at KIST to model the enhancement of the electrocatalytic activity of gold nanoparticles produced by sonochemical treatment, using the embedded atom potential.
The cover page schematically shows supercooled molten gold nanoparticles produced by sonochemical treatment, which can have enhanced electrocatalytic activity for the hydrogen oxidation reaction. The second figure shows coordination numbers of gold atoms of calculated structures of gold nanoparticles equilibrated at temperatures from 0 K to 1100 K.
