This paper proposes an improved binary zebra optimization algorithm (IBZOA) to reduce the peak sidelobe level (PSLL) of thinned planar arrays. Derived from the original zebra optimization algorithm (ZOA), the IBZOA incorporates a probability estimation model, converts real variables into binary codes, and introduces a dynamic selection strategy along with an adaptive t-distribution mutation strategy. These enhancements improve the algorithm's global search capability, prevent it from falling into local optima, and significantly accelerate convergence speed. Three sets of simulation experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the IBZOA. The results demonstrate that the IBZOA effectively enhances antenna performance by reducing the PSLL of thinned planar arrays in a shorter time compared to other optimization algorithms.
